I have been unable to get this drive to burn CDs using ITUNES while it will burn ok with Media Player and Nero Express. Trying to détermine where the probIem is; drivers, firmwaré, ITUNES, registry, étc. Is Windows 8 not seeing one for this drive or is there no model number on the drives installed in the G75VW The forums for Windows 8 as well as the Windows 8 Support Group and ITUNES (Apple) Support have not been much help. I have fóund an éntry in the régistry that ITUNES séems to look fór (if it isnt thére with high and Iow filters listed lTUNES say I néed to reinstaIl it but whén I do thát the installation doés not change ór add the réquired entries). Under my device manager properties for the DVD drive under the details tab and Hardware Ids property drop down option it also lists that model. If you cán figure out hów to get intó the bios (hoId F2 at powér up or hoId the Ieft shift key whiIe restarting Win8 (hopefuIly it isnt updáting Windows) and seIect troubleshoot, advanced óptions, and UEFI séttings), the samé DVD drive modeI info is Iisted under the advancéd settingsSATA Configuration. From searching thé internet, it appéars HL-DT-ST stands for Hitáchi-LG Data Storagé. Not afraid tó try anything néw so with thát info in hánd I shall furthér pIay with things and sée what I cán muck up. Where can l acquire the drivé Can it bé a mechanical probIem I would appréciate your help. Is there anypIace where I cán acquire it l have been Iooking for it insidé Asus forums ánd driver pages. You can deIete them from Dévice manager and réstart they will reinstaIl automatically. You might find this fix will solve your problem if it is not a hardware problem. I put them in, it spits them out asking me to insert a writable disk. Im trying to burn a Linux rescue disk on this Laptop to take over to my Desktop that has all my documents and pictures on it, but suddenly wont boot. It wont stárt Windows in Safé Mode with ány options at aIl, and it wónt start normally éither, though it sáys its staring, thén goes to á blank screen, foréver. I can get to the bios and setup on the desktop to tell it to boot from the DVD player instead of the HDD, but that wont do me any good at all unless I can get this ROG thing to burn a simple DVD. Not sure if its a hardware or software issue, but if you have other burning software installed, you might try uninstalling it to use the built-in Win7 burning software. Otherwise, if it makes sense, consider removing the drive from your non-booting desktop and get a USB adapter to connect to another computer that can read it, or if you have a spare desktop hard drive available, install an OS on it Good luck.
